Historic Preservation Law

Historic Preservation Law

Our Historic Preservation department is highly respected for their expertise in navigating the complex issues in commercial and residential historic preservation transactions. The lawyers of Andrews Davis can respond on many fronts to help communities protect their heritage, their homes and businesses, their neighborhoods, and their history. We can provide guidance for navigating the regulatory framework involved in obtaining permits and licenses. We can also provide assistance in negotiations with interest groups, regulatory staff and municipal, state and federal public officials.

We represent clients at both the municipal level in front of Boards and Commissions, as well as in state and federal administrative and court proceedings. Our first goal is to avoid litigation, by using advocacy to encourage better government decisions that protect historic sites, neighborhoods, and landscapes. However, when it becomes necessary, the Firm is prepared to litigate to protect historic resources.

Our Firm's Historic Preservation attorneys are also experienced in the process and procedures required to apply and qualify for the various federal and state tax credits available for projects involving the rehabilitation and restoration of historic structures. We can assist in reviewing the goals of each project and recommend a combination of federal and state tax credit programs that would be most beneficial for the specific project. In addition, we can assist in the preparation of the documentation and government forms to qualify for the federal and state tax credit programs.
