Joe has a general business transactional practice that includes mergers and acquisitions, general corporate planning and counseling, corporate governance, corporate finance, not-for-profits, private placements, venture capital, public securities offerings, limited liability companies and partnerships. Joe has presented numerous seminars, including: Due Diligence Under Federal Securities Laws to the Analyst Education Seminar of the North American Securities Administrators Association; Duties and Liabilities of Directors of Non-Profit Corporations presented at the 1995 Annual Non Profit Management Conference of The Support Center of Oklahoma; the 1998 Directors Workshop sponsored by the Center for Non-Profit Management; Corporate Governance presented at the 1999 Annual Meeting of the Oklahoma Bar Association; and Helping Your Client Buy or Sell a Small-to-Medium Sized Business at the December 18, 2012 National Business Institute Seminar.
He is a member of the Oklahoma County Bar Association, the Oklahoma Bar Association and the American Bar Association. Joe served as an advisor on federal and state securities law to the Oil Investment Institute, a national trade association during 1984 and 1985 and was Chairman of the Business Associations Section of the Oklahoma Bar Association in 1985. He has also served on the Oklahoma Securities Department Administrator’s Select Committee, an advisory committee on securities legislation and regulation and as a member of the Committee of Business Associations Section of the Oklahoma Bar Association on Revised Uniform Partnership Act. Joe is the recipient of the 2006 Leadership in Law award given by the Oklahoma County Bar Association in conjunction with The Journal Record newspaper. In 2006, Mr. Rockett was elected to the Board of Directors of Meritas, Law Firms Worldwide. He is also listed in Chambers, Who's Who in American Law, Best Lawyers in America, and Super Lawyers. Joe has received an AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
Joe is proud of the growth and development of the Myriad Gardens, a world class, award winning botanical garden and a focal point of downtown Oklahoma City. He is a long time Board Member of the Myriad Gardens Foundation.
Raised in Drumright, Oklahoma, Joe graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1967 from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.
Joe feels among his most rewarding professional experiences has been the role he has served in coordinating the Firm's participation in Meritas, the premier international affiliation of independent law firms, and the relationships he has developed among the members of Meritas. Joe served on the Board of Directors of Meritas for three years during which he visited a number of cities worldwide performing his duties as a Director and member of several Meritas committees. He serves as the Firm's primary contact for Meritas.
